Travel Recommendations

We recommend staying in central San Diego or by the beach, not in Tierrasanta. Tierrasanta is a suburb and not close to most attractions.

Balboa Park

Famous park with museums, art, the Zoo, and more

Balboa Park is great to walk around and is located in central San Diego. Balboa park is home to museums, cool architecture, art galleries, the Japanese Friendship Garden, music, and the Zoo.

La Jolla Cove

Famous seaside views overlooking the water and seals.

La Jolla Cove is best for a morning or afternoon walk overlooking the water. You can see seals on the rocks and go out to a nice breakfast or brunch nearby. If you walk down the main streets there is also great shopping and amazing art galleries.

For outdoorsy active folks: Kayak tour from La Jolla Shores to La Jolla Cove caves.

Seaport Village and the Midway Museum

Fun bayside restaurants with a maritime museum aboard an aircraft carrier.

Seaport Village is a great place to walk and enjoy food looking out over the water. It is close to Downtown San Diego and is a short walk to the Midway Museum. I recommend the Midway for any navy fans.

Little Italy

Great place to enjoy the evening in downtown and get dinner.

Little Italy has a lovely farmer's market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. It has lots of restaurants and some shops.

Coronado

Fancy manmade island with shopping and restaraunts.

Coronado is a brief Uber or drive from downtown and goes over the famous Coronado bridge. It has great shopping, good walks or bike rides along the water, and the Hotel Del Coronado (a fancy hotel with great beach walks and potential to find sand dollars.)

The Zoo

Highly recommended for kids.

San Diego has a super fun zoo. You can walk or take the little bus around the zoo. Great for little kids or people who like animals.

SeaWorld

Highly recommended for kids, teens, or adults who like marine life and maybe some fun roller coasters.

SeaWorld has amazing aquariums, Orca, Dolphin, and Otter shows, and fun rides. You can spend a half day here, starting any time. You can rent strollers for little kids or enjoy walking around the park.

Beach Day!

La Jolla Shores is the most popular beach. You can also go to Mission Bay.

La Jolla Shores is the most famous spot in San Diego for a beach day. Great sand and gentle waves. If you are feeling adventurous, you can rent a surfboard or take a surf lesson. Mission Bay is another great place for a beach day. It also has a small amusement park with carnival games and rides.

Sunset Cliffs

Great for a sunset walk and family pictures!

Sunset cliffs is probably one of the most beautiful places in San Diego. I love going for a walk or run along the cliffs. There is plenty of parking and you can walk or take in the view from your car.
